Editorial Policy
Who this policy covers, and the principles that guide every story, analysis and research paper we publish.
1Purpose and Scope
This policy sets the rules that govern everything published by The Gulf Observer (thegulfobserver.com) and The Gulf Observer Research Forum, together referred to as “the Organization”.
It applies to all staff, editors, regular writers, contributing writers, guest columnists, research fellows, translators, photographers and any person whose work appears on the Organization’s website, newsletters or social media accounts.
By submitting content to the Organization, every writer and contributor confirms that they have read, understood and accepted this policy in full.
2Editorial Principles
The Organization publishes news, analysis and research in the public interest, guided by the following principles:
Accuracy
Facts, figures, quotations and dates must be correct and verifiable. Unconfirmed information must be clearly identified as such.
Fairness and balance
Where a person or institution is criticised, their position should be represented fairly and, where practical, they should be given a chance to respond.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made on merit and are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors or outside interests.
Responsibility
Content must not incite violence, hatred, sectarianism or discrimination on the basis of religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender or any other identity.
Respect for faith
Content must not insult or ridicule Islam, the Holy Prophet (PBUH), or any religion, prophet or religious figure.
Decency
Obscene, vulgar or defamatory language is not permitted.
Respect for friendly nations
Commentary on foreign states and their leaders must remain dignified, factual and in keeping with responsible journalism.
