Qatar: HMC Medical Education Awards ceremony celebrates excellence
Doha, The Gulf Observer: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Department of Medical Education recently held its prestigious event of Excellence in Medical Education Awards Ceremony to recognize the accomplishments of learners, educators, and administrators in the exceptional delivery and achievement of high-quality education and promoting excellence in training standards.
The event saw over 100 awards granted in several categories which recognized the dedication and exceptional contribution to education amongst faculty members, and exceptional performance among learners and trainees in both postgraduate and undergraduate medical programs, and within continuing professional development (CPD) and in the field of simulation.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Khal, Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Director of Medical Education expressed his deep appreciation to all who contribute to medical education at HMC, remarking that their pride, relentless commitment, and passion for their profession is evident through their exceptional contribution and performance.
“We are proud that HMC’s medical education programs consistently meet the highest standards of international training standards, and this is important both for the next generation of healthcare practitioners as well as their future patients. Because of the quality of our training and education programs, we are able to attract some of the best and brightest medical graduates both local and international,” said Dr. Al-Khal.
“To achieve this high standard, we depend on excellent educators who want to bring out the best in those they mentor through providing well-rounded, academic and practical educational programs in an environment conducive to learning. It is their contributions that that will help us prepare our future highly competent medical workforce in keeping with our national health strategy.” added Dr. Al-Khal.
As an ACGME-I accredited institution and a key academic partner for several local health professions education programs, HMC’s medical, dental, and other health professions training programs must meet rigorous international standards around the quality of teaching, offer a robust and safe clinical learning environment, and ensure health professions students and trainees have access to all the resources they need to succeed and become clinical leaders of the future.
A special category of awards, the Director’s Special Awards, was also granted to recognize the long service and contributions made to support medical education across the corporation.
The annual recognition event was held in the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center with distinguished leaders and colleagues from across the corporation celebrating excellence in medical education at HMC.
HMC is the first healthcare system in the region to achieve prestigious institutional accreditation by ACGME International LLC (www.acgme-i.org).
To date, eighteen (18) of HMC’s medical residency training programs and 11 fellowships have successfully achieved ACGME International LLC program accreditation. In addition, HMC is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) as an Academic Medical Center.
