U.S. Condemns Irregularities in Bangladesh Elections, Urges Investigation

Bangladesh Elections

Washington, The Gulf Observer: The United States expresses its concern over the recent elections in Bangladesh, asserting that they were not conducted in a free and fair manner.

The U.S. State Department, in a statement on Monday, emphasized its worry about reported irregularities during the electoral process and strongly condemned the violence that transpired.

Despite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina securing a fourth consecutive term with her party claiming nearly 75% of the seats, the absence of the main opposition party, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and a low turnout raise significant apprehensions.

The U.S. government particularly highlights the arrests of thousands of political opposition members and underscores its unease with the reported discrepancies on election day, urging a thorough examination of the electoral process.
