Friends of Arthritis Patients Announces 11 Marathon in Sharjah
Sharjah, The Gulf Observer: The Friends of Arthritis Patients, a health-supporting association under the umbrella of the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, proudly revealed plans to launch its eleventh marathon on February 25, 2024. This significant initiative is set to foster a strategic partnership with prominent entities, including the Sharjah Police General Command, the Sharjah Sports Council, the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Media City (Shams), Al Bataeh Municipality, the Emirates Red Crescent, and Fast Building Contracting Company.
During a press conference held on Thursday at Aljada, Wahida Abdelaziz, Chairperson of the Friends of Arthritis Patients, outlined the association’s commitment to promoting community well-being, physical activity, and supporting arthritis patients. The marathon will feature a diverse range of health, sports, and recreational events, including championships, marine activities, and prizes for winners. The association aims to encourage community members to embrace physical activity as a means of promoting overall health.
Wahida Abdelaziz emphasized the association’s dedication to supporting arthritis patients and enhancing community awareness of preventive measures against chronic diseases. This aligns with the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, and reflects the commitment to ensuring a healthy and sustainable life for society members.
Key Highlights:
New Marathon Track: The eleventh marathon will introduce a new track covering a distance of 21 kilometers, reflecting the association’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.
Scientific Day: A virtual scientific day will precede the marathon, featuring discussions on the importance of movement and physical activity with specialists. The aim is to encourage physical activity and provide valuable insights into disease prevention.
Community Outreach: Promotion of the event has been conducted across various locations in Sharjah, including the central and eastern regions. Collaborations with Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Cooperative Society, and entities affiliated with Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) ensure a widespread presence to raise awareness.
Marathon Details: The marathon will take place along the Al Mamzar Corniche and will comprise five stages catering to different age groups and physical abilities. These stages range from 1 km for participants of all ages to the introduction of a 21 km run for individuals aged 16 and above.
