President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Hosts US Delegation
Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: In a significant diplomatic engagement, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan welcomed a distinguished US delegation led by Senator Stephen Daines and Chairman of the House Committee, Congressman Mike Rogers, on 27 March.
During the meeting, discussions centered on the imperative of fortifying the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the United States, while concurrently amplifying multifaceted cooperation across various domains.
The parties expressed profound satisfaction with the notable advancements achieved in bilateral cooperation in recent years, underscoring the significance of sustained dialogue and reciprocal visits. Notably, the successful convening of the inaugural summit of leaders from Central Asian countries and the United States in the C5+1 format last September in New York City was hailed as a milestone in fostering regional collaboration.
President Mirziyoyev lauded the burgeoning inter-parliamentary engagement, particularly highlighting the commendable efforts of the Caucus for Cooperation with Uzbekistan within the US Congress.
Moreover, both sides acknowledged the positive trajectory of bilateral trade, which witnessed a remarkable 30 percent increase by the end of 2023. The growing presence of American enterprises in the Uzbekistan market, exemplified by the substantial investment projects undertaken by Air Products exceeding US$10 billion, was underscored as a testament to the burgeoning economic ties between the two nations.
Special emphasis was placed on nurturing active practical cooperation with the states of Montana, Alabama, Washington, California, and Texas, represented by the visiting American legislators. Promising avenues of collaboration encompassed diverse sectors such as education, agriculture, digital technologies, mining, green energy, pharmaceuticals, and the food industry.
In a significant development, an agreement was reached to facilitate business missions from American regions to Uzbekistan, further enhancing bilateral economic engagement.
Additionally, the discussions encompassed an exchange of perspectives on prevailing international and regional issues, including the evolving situation in Afghanistan, reflecting the shared commitment of Uzbekistan and the United States to addressing pertinent global challenges through constructive dialogue and cooperation.
