Vietnam Pledges Increased Contributions to ASEAN
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, Trương Quang Hoài Nam, and Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Kao Kim Hourn, held a significant meeting on Thursday in Jakarta. The discussions centered on the bloc’s cooperation and connectivity, as well as Vietnam’s active engagement within the grouping.
Kao Kim Hourn commended Vietnam for its strong commitment to ASEAN and for prioritizing its engagement in the bloc. The meeting provided a platform for the two leaders to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges facing ASEAN amidst regional and global uncertainties, as the bloc prepares to transition to a new period following the completion of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
Both sides emphasized the importance of fostering cooperation, maintaining solidarity and unity within ASEAN, and upholding its centrality. They highlighted the goal of building a politically robust community, closely linked economically, and harmonious in its relations, all for the benefit of residents and businesses, as well as for peace, security, stability, and development in the region and the world at large.
Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn updated Deputy Head Nam on the positive progress in the development of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and associated plans.
Deputy Head Nam discussed potential avenues to enhance cooperation among political parties of ASEAN member countries. He also suggested that the Secretary-General continue to support Vietnamese officials currently working at or aspiring to work at the ASEAN Secretariat.
Pledging Việt Nam’s continued close coordination with other member countries, Nam reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to contributing to the ASEAN Community.
