AFCON Morocco 2025 Records Surge in Global Viewership and Broadcast Reach

AFCON Morocco 2025

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: Early research findings indicate that the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has achieved a significant rise in global viewership, with international audiences across Europe, Asia, and South America increasing by approximately 61 percent compared to previous editions.

The figures are based on preliminary assessments by independent research agencies, with a comprehensive global audience report expected to be released soon by international analytics firm Nielsen.

According to the initial studies, the strong growth has been largely driven by the tournament’s expanded global broadcast reach. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) secured record international media coverage for the Morocco edition, enabling the competition to access new markets and audiences worldwide.

European markets played a key role in this surge, with the United Kingdom and France recording some of the most notable increases in viewership during the tournament.

CAF’s strategic partnership with global sports marketing agency IMG also contributed significantly to the expansion of the tournament’s distribution network. The number of international broadcast partners rose by approximately 50 percent compared to the 2023 edition held in Côte d’Ivoire.

For the first time, several new markets broadcast AFCON matches, including Japan, China, South Korea, Mexico, Greece, and Colombia, making the Morocco 2025 edition the most widely distributed tournament in the competition’s history.

South America also witnessed strong engagement, with more than 24 million viewers tuning in from Brazil alone, while nearly two million viewers followed the tournament in Mexico.

CAF highlighted that its enhanced media strategy, including the production and global distribution of digital content such as match highlights and supplementary programming, significantly boosted exposure for sponsors and partners. Brand visibility for partners increased by over 65 percent in European and South American markets.

Several countries reported record-breaking viewership figures. In the United Kingdom, more than three million viewers watched the final on Channel 4, while Germany recorded over four million viewers throughout the tournament.

India also emerged as a promising new market, with more than 800,000 viewers streaming matches on the FanCode platform, marking a strong debut for AFCON in the country.

CAF further strengthened its global footprint by securing new broadcast agreements with major platforms and networks, including DAZN in Japan, NAVER and STN in South Korea, Douyin and Leisu in China, Fox and Claro Sports in Mexico, Movistar in Spain, Win Sports in Colombia, and ERT in Greece.

The Morocco 2025 edition is being widely regarded as a landmark tournament, reflecting CAF’s growing success in expanding the global appeal and commercial reach of African football.
