Amir of Qatar and Finland’s President Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Helsinki, The Gulf Observer: The Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the President of the Republic of Finland, His Excellency Alexander Stubb, held an official talks session at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki on Wednesday. At the outset, President Stubb warmly welcomed His Highness and the accompanying delegation, emphasizing that the Amir’s first official visit to Finland underscores the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Finland. The Finnish President expressed hopes for enhanced cooperation and deeper relations in various fields.
HH the Amir expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality, highlighting the exceptional relationship between Qatar and Finland. His Highness voiced optimism that the visit would further solidify bilateral cooperation across sectors such as investment, economy, energy, education, and international cooperation, benefiting both countries and their peoples. The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the ongoing developments in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
The session was attended by senior Qatari officials, including Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani, Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, and Minister of State for International Cooperation HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater. Representing Finland were Minister for Foreign Trade and Development HE Ville Tavio, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President HE Lauri Tierala, Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Security Policy HE Outi Holopainen, and other senior officials.
The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in key sectors and addressing shared global challenges. Following the session, the Finnish President hosted an official dinner banquet in honor of HH the Amir and the Qatari delegation at the Presidential Palace. HH the Amir was also accorded an official reception ceremony upon his arrival at the palace.
