Apple Expands Commitment to Innovation with New Research Labs in China

Shanghai, The Gulf Observer: U.S. tech giant Apple unveiled plans on Tuesday to further strengthen its presence in China by expanding its applied research lab in Shanghai and establishing a new facility in Shenzhen later this year. According to Isabel Ge Mahe, Apple’s vice president and managing director of Greater China, these labs are dedicated to supporting intelligent manufacturing processes, enhancing product reliability, ensuring quality, and conducting material analysis.
The resources provided by these labs will be instrumental for Apple’s global engineering and design team. The company has already invested a cumulative 1 billion yuan (approximately 140 million U.S. dollars) in building applied research labs in China, showcasing its long-term commitment to fostering technological advancements in the region.
Having been actively engaged in development efforts in China for over 30 years, Apple continues to strengthen its ties with the country. Currently boasting research and development centers in key cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Shenzhen, Apple has significantly expanded its research and development team in China over the past five years, doubling in size.
The move to establish and enhance research labs underscores Apple’s dedication to leveraging the innovative potential and technological expertise that China offers. With 151 out of its 200 major suppliers engaging in production activities in China, Apple’s commitment to advancing technological capabilities in the region remains steadfast. The expansion of research facilities in Shanghai and the establishment of a new lab in Shenzhen mark a strategic step forward in Apple’s mission to drive cutting-edge developments and contribute to the ongoing growth of the technology sector in China.
