Azerbaijan Ambassador Honors Black January Martyrs at NUML, Highlights Strong Pakistan-Azerbaijan Ties

Islamabad, The Gulf Observer: Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, visited the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) as the Chief Guest at an event organized by the Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center. The event commemorated the martyrs of Black January, the tragic events of January 20, 1990, where lives were sacrificed for Azerbaijan’s independence, according to the report of the News Hub Consultants.

During the visit, Ambassador Farhadov met with NUML Rector, Maj Gen (R) Shahid Mehmood Kayani HI(M). Also present were Director General NUML, Brig Shahzad Munir, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages, and other senior officials. The Rector warmly welcomed the Ambassador, highlighting the historic brotherly ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The two dignitaries discussed enhancing collaboration in education, focusing on academic exchanges between universities in Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Ambassador Farhadov expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan on regional and international matters and commended the strong cultural and educational bonds shared by the nations.

The Rector proposed joint academic projects and cultural exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the Ambassador and the people of Azerbaijan over the recent tragic airline crash, praying for the departed souls and their families.

At the commemorative event, students, faculty, and dignitaries honored the martyrs of Black January through poetry, speeches, and tributes. Speakers, including the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and heads of the Turkish and Azerbaijan Departments, highlighted the significance of the sacrifices made during January 1990.

In his address, Ambassador Farhadov thanked NUML for preserving Azerbaijan’s history and praised the Azerbaijan Language and Culture Center for promoting Azerbaijan’s culture and history among Pakistani students.

The event concluded with a commitment to deepen the partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, fostering people-to-people connections and academic collaborations.
