Azerbaijan and Pakistan Parliamentary Speakers Reaffirm Strategic Ties in Baku Meeting

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, held a meeting on Sunday with a high-level parliamentary delegation from Pakistan led by Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The meeting underscored the deep-rooted brotherhood and strategic partnership between the two nations.
Speaker Gafarova welcomed her Pakistani counterpart, describing the visit as a clear demonstration of the strong and high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. She noted with appreciation Speaker Sadiq’s earlier meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, highlighting the Azerbaijani head of state’s unwavering commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Pakistan.
The Azerbaijani Speaker expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s steadfast support during the nearly three decades of Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territories and throughout the Patriotic War. She further praised the effective functioning of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan interparliamentary friendship groups and the dynamic collaboration between the two countries’ legislative institutions within international platforms.
Speaker Gafarova also emphasized the significance of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan-Türkiye trilateral cooperation format, characterizing it as a major achievement in the context of strategic regional alliances.
In response, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed the brotherly bond between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, stressing that the two nations consistently support one another. He thanked Azerbaijan for its enduring solidarity with Pakistan in the context of its conflict with India.
Speaker Sadiq also noted the symbolic importance of the recent ECO Summit held in Khankendi, which, he said, sent a powerful message to the international community and reinforced support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and post-conflict development.
Looking ahead, Speaker Sadiq proposed the expansion of interparliamentary cooperation through greater knowledge exchange and reciprocal visits. He also briefed his Azerbaijani counterparts on the structure and operational principles of the Pakistani Parliament, underscoring the importance of legislative diplomacy.
The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to deepening their partnership across multiple sectors and continued coordination on regional and international issues of shared interest.
