Azerbaijan Declares September 20 as State Sovereignty Day

Baku, The Gulf Observer: In accordance with an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on September 19, 2024, Azerbaijan will annually celebrate State Sovereignty Day on September 20, NHC reports.

This decision commemorates the events of September 19, 2023, when an anti-terror operation was launched in the Garabagh economic region to counter large-scale provocations, disarm remaining Armenian forces, and restore the constitutional order of Azerbaijan in the region. The operation, which lasted 23 hours and concluded on September 20, was successfully executed by the Azerbaijani Army, fulfilling all objectives with remarkable professionalism. The operation’s success marked the full restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over the region.

According to the Cabinet of Ministers, while State Sovereignty Day will be recognized as a holiday, it will remain a working day for now.
