Azerbaijan, U.S. Discuss Cooperation
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov met with a U.S. delegation led by Joshua Haque, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, to discuss key aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States. The meeting also focused on the ongoing normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), the discussions highlighted the longstanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in various fields, underscoring the importance of continuing to develop bilateral relations based on mutual interests. Both sides also acknowledged the successful hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in November 2024, noting the positive collaboration between Azerbaijan and the U.S. during the event.
Deputy Minister Mammadov provided an update on the situation in the region following the conflict, emphasizing the progress made in negotiations for a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. However, Mammadov reiterated concerns regarding Armenia’s territorial claims against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, which persist in Armenia’s constitution, legislative acts, and through international courts and organizations. The importance of Armenia abandoning these claims was strongly emphasized.
The meeting also covered other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and addressing regional challenges together.
