Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Azerbaijani Journalists’ Network Public Union has initiated the production of a documentary film dedicated to the large-scale revival of Karabakh and East Zangezur, regions liberated following the 44-day Patriotic War.

The documentary aims to chronicle the comprehensive reconstruction and development efforts underway in these historically significant territories, as well as the “Great Return” of internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands. It will highlight the emotional and symbolic homecoming of families and the ongoing transformation of war-affected areas into thriving communities.

The film will also reflect on Azerbaijan’s historic Victory during the Patriotic War, showcasing the spirit of national pride and unity as the country commemorates the fifth anniversary of the triumph. Through vivid storytelling and compelling visuals, the documentary will capture both the physical rebuilding and the emotional resonance of return for those long displaced.

Filming has already taken place in Aghdam, Khojaly, Shusha, and Khankendi, with upcoming shoots scheduled in the districts of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Lachin, Kalbajar, and Zangilan. These areas, once devastated by conflict, are now the focal points of massive redevelopment and infrastructure renewal.

The project was selected as one of the winners of the 2025 medium grant competition organized by the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This support reflects the importance of the documentary in preserving historical memory, promoting national unity, and showcasing the progress achieved under the “Great Return” initiative.

The film is expected to serve not only as a powerful visual record of Azerbaijan’s post-conflict recovery but also as a tribute to the resilience and determination of its people.
