Azerbaijan's Lachin Designated as CIS Cultural Capital for 2025

Moscow, The Gulf Observer: The city of Lachin, located in Azerbaijan, will be granted the prestigious status of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Cultural Capital for the year 2025, according to Yuri Ushakov, Aide to the President of Russia. Ushakov made the announcement during a briefing ahead of the upcoming summit of CIS leaders in Moscow, as reported by NHC.

The decision to bestow this honor upon Lachin is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting cultural exchange and cooperation among CIS member states. As Ushakov highlighted, the designation of CIS Cultural Capital reflects the city’s historical and cultural significance within the region.

The Moscow summit will also review draft decisions for future CIS Cultural Capitals. Mehri in Armenia is set to receive the title in 2026, followed by Molodechno in Belarus in 2027. This rotation underscores the CIS’s commitment to celebrating and preserving the rich cultural heritage of its member states.
