Chinese Premier Calls for Expanded Trade and Deepened Cooperation with Peru
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized the need to expand trade and deepen cooperation between China and Peru during talks with Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra on Friday in Beijing.
Premier Li affirmed China’s commitment to its relationship with Peru, expressing willingness to enhance the traditional friendship and elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. He highlighted the importance of mutual support on core interests and major concerns, and called for increased exchanges and dialogue at all levels.
Li urged both countries to align their development strategies, continue expanding trade, and deepen cooperation in traditional sectors such as mining, electricity, ports, and infrastructure. This collaboration will be guided by the principles of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
Additionally, Li proposed expanding cooperation into emerging sectors including new energy, communications, digital economy, digital healthcare, and artificial intelligence. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the steady implementation of major projects and fostering people-to-people and cultural exchanges to strengthen bilateral friendship.
China supports Peru in hosting this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting, Li stated. He expressed China’s readiness to enhance communication and coordination with Peru in multilateral forums such as the UN and APEC, aiming to contribute positively to world peace, development, and the interests of developing countries.
President Boluarte praised the positive impact of Chinese investment and cooperation on Peru’s economic and social development. She reiterated Peru’s active participation in Belt and Road cooperation and welcomed further Chinese investment in sectors such as infrastructure, new energy, green development, and education. Boluarte assured that the Peruvian government would provide a favorable environment for Chinese enterprises.
Boluarte also reaffirmed Peru’s adherence to the one-China principle, support for the Global Security Initiative, and willingness to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China to jointly promote global peace and development.
