Chinese Vice FM Urges G20 Focus on Development Issues and Global Cooperation

Rio de Janeiro, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu emphasized the importance of prioritizing development issues on the global stage during his participation in the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Ma called upon the Group of Twenty (G20) to reaffirm its original mission of promoting international economic cooperation. He stressed the need to enhance the macroeconomic policy cooperation mechanism and collaborate in advancing the reform of global economic governance.

In his remarks, Ma highlighted the significance of authentic multilateralism, urging the G20 to support the United Nations and its Security Council in playing a pivotal role in addressing global challenges. He emphasized the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security as a fundamental guideline for China in dealing with international hotspot issues.

Regarding the alarming situation in Gaza, the Chinese diplomat expressed deep concern, characterizing the current state as extremely grave with severe repercussions on regional peace and stability. Ma urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities under the UN Charter promptly. He called for immediate action to promote a ceasefire, end the ongoing conflict, and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Furthermore, Ma proposed the convening of a larger, more authoritative, and more effective international peace conference to make collective efforts toward realizing long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

During the meeting, the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister also elaborated on China’s position regarding the situation in the Red Sea and the crisis in Ukraine. As the discussions unfolded, Ma underscored China’s commitment to contributing constructively to global affairs and fostering cooperation among nations to address pressing international issues.
