Pingdingshan, The Gulf Observer: Tragedy struck in the city of Pingdingshan, central China’s Henan Province, as a coal mine accident claimed the lives of eight individuals, with eight others reported missing, as disclosed by local authorities on Saturday.

The incident occurred at 2:55 p.m. in a coal mine operated by Pingdingshan Tianan Coal Mining Co., Ltd., resulting in a coal and gas outburst. Out of the 425 people working underground during the accident, 380 have been successfully lifted to safety, leaving 45 individuals in the mine.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, and those responsible for the coal mine are under custody by public security authorities.
