Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Peace, humanity, inclusiveness, and freedom are the common values shared by Indonesia and the Vatican, which drive them to continue to strengthen bilateral relations, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said.
“The two states have been enjoying sustainable relations since the establishment of their diplomatic ties. Both parties also share similar values, namely peace, humanity, inclusiveness, and freedom,” he observed, according to a statement released in Jakarta on Thursday.
He delivered the remarks while attending an event commemorating the 10th anniversary of the election of Pope Francis at the Embassy of the Vatican in Jakarta on Wednesday evening.
According to Setiadi, the commemorative event served as an opportunity for both countries to further intensify their relations.
“Let me extend appreciation to His Excellency (Pope Francis) for his support and blessing for Indonesia. We are proud of being a partner in peace of the Holy See,” he said.
To further enhance bilateral relations, President Joko Widodo has invited Pope Francis to visit the Southeast Asian country, he added.
Setiadi said that the visit is highly anticipated and would provide a chance to promote interfaith dialogue and underline the importance of peace.
“We are truly expecting the visit to immediately take place. This visit will serve as a crucial moment not only for Catholics in Indonesia, but also for people of different beliefs,” he added.
The minister also lauded the Vatican for its continuous support to Catholic churches in Indonesia.
“Indonesian Catholic churches, along with figures from different religions, have been tenaciously striving to foster unity, diversity, and peace in Indonesia,” he said.
He also expressed the belief that Pope Francis would continue to lead the Holy See in contributing to the realization and preservation of world peace.
“Indonesia is a proud peace partner of the Holy See. We believe that under the leadership and guidance of His Excellency, the international community will invest even greater efforts to create a more peaceful world,” he stated.
