Deadly Blast Rocks Peshawar

Peshawar, The Gulf Observer: A powerful blast occurred on Board Bazar road in Peshawar early Sunday morning, resulting in two fatalities and one person sustaining injuries, according to police officials.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Aftab Abbasi, confirming the incident, stated that the bomb disposal unit’s report indicated that it was not a suicide blast. “An explosion took place during the transfer of explosives. Three people were transporting the explosives, of which two were killed in the blast, and one sustained injuries,” he explained.

The injured individual, in critical condition, is currently undergoing treatment at Khyber Teaching Hospital, as per spokesperson Sajjad Khan. The bodies of the deceased have also been moved to the hospital.

The police have cordoned off the area, and officials from the counter-terrorism department (CTD) and rescue teams are present to collect evidence. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Board Bazar is a typically busy road in Peshawar, known for heavy traffic. However, at the time of the blast, the traffic was reportedly slow.

Earlier reports from SSP Abbasi mentioned that explosives on a motorcycle detonated in Nasir Bagh this morning. “We have also recovered a mutilated body, and our bomb disposal unit is investigating the area. We are trying to ascertain if it was a suicide blast or if the bomb was planted on a motorcycle,” he added.

Expressing condemnation for the incident, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has called on the inspector general (IG) to provide a comprehensive report on the situation. The authorities are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the blast and bring those responsible to justice.
