DEWA Achieves Remarkable Milestone with 499,541 Plastic Bottles and Aluminium Cans Recycled
Dubai, The Gulf Observer: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) proudly announces a significant achievement in its sustainability efforts as employees have successfully recycled 499,541 plastic bottles and aluminium cans from October 2022 to the end of December 2023. This impressive initiative has resulted in diverting 7,108 kilograms of waste from landfills.
DEWA’s commitment to environmental sustainability is demonstrated through its provision of smart recycling machines strategically placed in select buildings. Employees utilize the DEWA Smart Office app to operate these machines seamlessly. By scanning the QR code on the app, employees earn points for each recycling operation, entering them into a monthly raffle draw for valuable prizes. In 2023 alone, DEWA recognized and rewarded 49 employees for their outstanding contribution to this eco-friendly cause.
This recycling initiative aligns with the UAE Circular Economy Policy and DEWA’s Circular Economy Strategy, focusing on resource optimization and generating social, economic, and environmental value. The program encourages sustainable practices such as recycling to reduce waste, supporting the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041. This comprehensive strategy aims to promote innovation in waste management and recycling, waste-to-energy conversion, and provide practical solutions to environmental challenges.
DEWA has further solidified its commitment to sustainability by organizing 13 awareness activities for employees. These activities emphasize the importance of adopting a responsible and sustainable lifestyle both at home and in the workplace. The initiatives encourage efficient electricity and water consumption, waste reduction, limiting plastic usage, and promoting the reuse and recycling of plastic bottles and aluminium cans.
By achieving this milestone, DEWA remains at the forefront of environmental stewardship, contributing to the broader vision of a sustainable and eco-friendly Dubai.
