Dushanbe to Host Third Toji Somon National Film Festival in October

Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan will host the third Toji Somon National Film Festival in Dushanbe from October 15 to 20, 2026, marking the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence and Tajik Cinema Day, observed annually on October 16.

Held under the theme “Celebrating True Art,” the festival aims to promote Tajik national culture and cinema, showcase the country’s achievements during the independence era, strengthen international cooperation in filmmaking, and support the development of emerging young filmmakers.

According to the state institution Tojikfilm, the festival will also help reinforce Dushanbe’s position as a cultural hub and a platform for international dialogue under the initiative “Dushanbe – City of Peace and Civilization.”

The event will feature films highlighting Tajikistan’s rich cultural heritage, national values and tourism potential, reflecting the country’s identity and artistic achievements through cinema.

Organizers announced that applications for participation opened on June 15 and will remain open until September 15, 2026, inviting filmmakers from across the country and abroad to submit their works.

The festival is being organized under the Cinema Development Programme of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023–2027, which seeks to strengthen the national film industry, encourage young creative talent and expand cooperation within the international filmmaking community.
