Erdoğan Meets Lebanese PM in New York, Condemns Israeli Attacks on Lebanon and Palestine
New York, The Gulf Observer: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Turkish House in New York on Wednesday, coinciding with his participation in the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During the meeting, the two leaders focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Türkiye and Lebanon. President Erdoğan strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks on both Lebanon and Palestine, expressing Türkiye’s unwavering support for Lebanon in the face of the escalating conflict.
Erdoğan urged the international community to take immediate and decisive action to halt Israeli aggression, describing Israel’s actions as a blatant violation of fundamental human rights. He accused Israel of committing acts of genocide in full view of the world, calling it a moral imperative for global leaders to intervene and address the humanitarian crisis.
The Turkish president highlighted the severe toll the conflict has taken on civilians, as Israel’s military offensive in Gaza nears its one-year mark and has increasingly spilled over into Lebanon. Erdoğan condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including women and children. In one day alone, over 500 people were killed and more than 1,600 others injured, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The strikes have ravaged towns and villages across southern Lebanon, destroying hospitals, essential infrastructure, and forcing tens of thousands to flee their homes. Erdoğan emphasized that stopping these violations and addressing the unfolding catastrophe is not only a political necessity but a moral duty for the global community.
The meeting underscored Türkiye’s continued commitment to standing by Lebanon in these challenging times and President Erdoğan’s broader call for international solidarity to stop the violence and restore peace in the region.
