Erdoğan, Trump Discuss Iran-Israel Crisis; Türkiye Offers Mediation to Prevent Escalation

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, during which he expressed Ankara’s commitment to do everything possible to prevent an uncontrolled escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the two leaders discussed the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East, particularly the conflict between Israel and Iran, as well as broader regional and global developments.
President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is closely following the developments and emphasized that dialogue on Iran’s nuclear program remains the only viable path toward de-escalation and long-term stability. He voiced his support for Washington’s position that diplomatic efforts and negotiations must be continued in order to peacefully resolve the nuclear issue.
Erdoğan reiterated Ankara’s readiness to contribute constructively to peace efforts in the region, calling for restraint and urging all parties to avoid steps that could ignite a broader conflict.
During the conversation, Trump urged Iran to return to the negotiating table and finalize a nuclear agreement before it is too late.
The diplomatic exchange came amid mounting tensions following Israel’s military attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities on Friday, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of senior Iranian commanders and leading scientists. Iran responded with retaliatory strikes, further escalating the situation.
In a related development, the sixth round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, originally scheduled to take place on Sunday in Muscat, was cancelled in light of the evolving crisis.
