Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his spouse commenced their two-day state visit to Vietnam on Tuesday morning, responding to an invitation extended by President Vo Van Thuong and his spouse.

The distinguished guests were warmly received at Noi Bai International Airport by key figures, including Chairman of the Presidential Office Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh.

This visit holds particular significance as it represents the German President’s first foreign visit of 2024 and marks the initial high-level delegation exchange between the two nations this year. Notably, 2024 is a pivotal year leading up to the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Vietnam in 2025.

President Steinmeier’s agenda includes crucial meetings with Vietnam’s top leaders, focusing on discussions surrounding measures to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields. The visit serves as an opportunity to exchange views on international matters of mutual concern, strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two nations.
