Dubai, The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, reviewed the progress of the Etihad Rail project by embarking on a passenger train journey between Dubai and Fujairah, marking a historic milestone in the UAE’s infrastructure development.

This landmark journey reflects His Highness’s commitment to directly overseeing strategic projects that align with the UAE’s national development goals and ensure comprehensive service across all regions of the country. The Etihad Rail passenger service, set to begin commercial operations in 2026, represents a pivotal phase in the UAE’s drive to establish a world-class, sustainable, and integrated transport network.

Speaking on the occasion, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the project’s national significance, stating:

“Etihad Rail is a vital economic artery that supports the UAE’s journey to the future. It is a key pillar in our vision to build an integrated transport network that strengthens the UAE’s position as a leading logistics hub, while facilitating the movement of people and goods.”

He added that the initiative embodies the spirit of the Union, enhances sustainability and connectivity, and contributes to the overall quality of life across all emirates. He commended the Etihad Rail team, calling their dedication “a source of pride and a vital contribution” to the country’s sustainable future.

During the journey, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by senior officials, including Saeed AlAhbabi, Chief Business Support Officer of Etihad Rail, on project achievements and future developments. The train, which will connect 11 cities from Al Sila to Fujairah, is designed to accommodate up to 400 passengers per train and aims to serve 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, highlighted the symbolic nature of the visit, praising the visionary leadership for its steadfast support since the announcement of the ‘Projects of the 50’ in 2021.

“This is a project that drives us towards a brighter future by strengthening connectivity and economic integration across the UAE.”

The Etihad Rail passenger network will include initial stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, with trains operating at speeds of up to 200 km/hr. Once operational, the system will offer a safe, modern, and sustainable mode of transport, reshaping mobility across the nation and reinforcing the UAE’s regional leadership in rail innovation and eco-friendly infrastructure.

This milestone journey underscores the UAE’s enduring commitment to unity, sustainability, and technological advancement, positioning the country as a global leader in transformative infrastructure development.
