Doha, The Gulf Observer: Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF), underscored the shared responsibility in preserving the Arabic language as a cornerstone of local identity.

Her remarks came during the opening ceremony of the International Day of Education activities organized by QF in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The event, held at the Ceremonial Court in Education City, featured Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, alongside several other dignitaries.

During a conversation with Sheikha Nouf Al Thani, Executive Director of Projects and Strategic Partnerships in QF’s Pre-University Education, Her Highness addressed the identity challenges faced by young people. She emphasized that the root cause of these challenges often lies in the students’ command of the Arabic language.

“The Arabic language is the incubator of thought, cultural understanding, heritage, and, thus, identity,” said Sheikha Moza. She highlighted that addressing this issue is a collective responsibility involving families, schools, and media institutions in a child’s upbringing.

Encouraging students in the audience, Her Highness urged them to take pride in their identity. “Have confidence in yourself and always bear in mind the unique and wonderful qualities of the Arabic language and culture. Be open to others and celebrate their characteristics, but I ask you to reject the aspects of global citizenry that require you to erase or weaken our local and national identity.”

During the event, H H Sheikha Moza and H E Sheikha Hind toured an exhibition featuring QF entities, where they interacted with students.
