Indonesia to Celebrate 79th Independence Day in Nusantara and Jakarta

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day commemoration ceremony will be held on August 17 in the nation’s new capital, Nusantara, and at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, announced.

Following a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Effendy revealed that the ceremony in Nusantara, located in East Kalimantan, will be led by President Joko Widodo, accompanied by President-elect Prabowo Subianto. The event will be attended by state guests, including ambassadors from friendly countries.

“Ambassadors will attend the ceremony in Nusantara and will return after the event, without staying overnight,” Effendy explained.

In Jakarta, the 79th Independence Day ceremony will be led by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, accompanied by Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Effendy emphasized the significance of inviting national figures, such as former presidents and vice presidents, to the celebrations. Monday’s meeting, which included representatives from various ministries and stakeholders, underscored this point. Discussions also addressed entertainment events organized by the State Secretariat.

Additionally, Effendy provided an update on the VVIP Airport in Nusantara, reporting that its preparations are 90 percent complete. “The VVIP Airport is expected to be fully operational by late July, ensuring its functionality for the ceremony,” he remarked.

The dual-location celebration marks a significant moment in Indonesia’s history as it transitions its capital to Nusantara, reflecting the nation’s growth and future aspirations.
