Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) delivered a compelling message on Saturday, urging immediate action against bullying cases in schools and advising educational institutions against covering up such incidents for the sake of their reputation. Speaking at the Congress XXIII of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) in Jakarta, the President emphasized the need for a prompt resolution of bullying cases and improvements to the overall school system.

Expressing his concern over rising instances of bullying, violence, and sexual abuse within schools, President Jokowi stressed that the nation cannot afford to let such cases persist, particularly given that schools are meant to be safe spaces for children to learn, question, create, play, and socialize.

“We should not let any kid be afraid of going to school. Students are not supposed to be under pressure when they are in schools,” President Jokowi emphasized during his broadcast opening speech.

Calling on Indonesian teachers to take a leading role in creating a safer and more comfortable learning ecosystem, the President highlighted the importance of prioritizing preventive measures to shield students from bullying. He urged teachers to focus on the rights of children, especially those who have fallen victim to bullying, advocating for the resolution of such cases instead of their concealment.

“I want you to prioritize taking preventive acts. You should prioritize the rights of our children, especially those who fell victim to bullying cases. Resolve such cases instead of covering them up,” President Jokowi urged the educators present at the Congress.

President Jokowi underscored the critical role of teachers in helping Indonesian children develop their skills, talents, and character. He emphasized the importance of producing a quality talent pool to harness the upcoming demographic bonus, aligning with the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision.

In conclusion, President Jokowi expressed gratitude to the PGRI for its collaborative efforts with the government to enhance the quality and professionalism of teachers. The partnership aims to contribute to the development of patriotic and competitive young generations, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students in Indonesia.
