Indonesian VP Initiates Review of Migrant Worker Protection Policies

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, announced that the Coordinating Economic Ministry has launched a comprehensive review of the implementation of good governance principles in the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers. The initiative aims to bolster the government’s role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of citizens seeking employment opportunities abroad.

In his address during a virtual Eid al-Fitr gathering with Indonesian migrant workers in Singapore and 12 other countries, Vice President Amin emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring every citizen’s right to work overseas for their well-being. He highlighted the need for continuous improvement in the management of migrant workers to address existing challenges, including skill gaps, regulatory violations, and inadequate protection for workers and their families.

Acknowledging the significant contributions of migrant workers to the nation’s economy, Vice President Amin expressed gratitude for their hard work and dedication despite facing numerous challenges abroad. He emphasized the importance of resilience and adherence to local regulations to maintain Indonesia’s positive image on the global stage.
