Iran and China Urge Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi have called for urgent international action to halt the Israeli regime’s aggression and establish an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. During a phone conversation on Monday, the two diplomats underscored the necessity of global efforts to condemn and stop Israel’s actions, which they described as criminal.
Bagheri Kani took to his X account to provide an update on his discussions with the Chinese foreign minister, stating that their talks focused on recent regional developments, particularly the Israeli regime’s activities in Lebanon and Yemen, as well as the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Bagheri emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the legal right to respond appropriately to safeguard regional security and stability. He also noted that the Chinese foreign minister expressed support for Iran’s legitimate efforts to defend its national sovereignty, security, and dignity. According to Bagheri, Beijing is keen to collaborate closely with Iran to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, took place in Tehran on July 31, a day after he attended the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian. This incident has further intensified tensions in the region, prompting renewed calls for international intervention.
