Iran Condemns Deadly Shooting Targeting Civilians in Australia

Australia

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has strongly condemned a deadly shooting incident in Australia that targeted civilians, resulting in multiple casualties.

“As a matter of principle, Iran condemns the violent attack against civilians in Sydney, Australia,” Baqaei said in a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday. He stressed that “terror violence and mass killing shall be condemned, wherever they’re committed, as unlawful and criminal.”

The condemnation followed a shooting earlier in the day at a Jewish holiday event held at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where at least 11 people were killed and more than two dozen others were injured after two gunmen opened fire, according to Australian authorities.

Police said one of the attackers was fatally shot by security forces at the scene, while the second suspect was arrested and remained in critical condition. A police source was quoted as saying that one of the gunmen was previously known to security services, although no specific threat had been identified prior to the attack.

The incident has drawn widespread international condemnation, with officials and governments expressing solidarity with the victims and reaffirming opposition to violence and terrorism in all its forms.
