Iran Moves to Join OIC Women’s Development Organization

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Deputy President for Women and Family Affairs, Zahra Behrouz-Azar, has announced the initiation of a bill aimed at joining the Women’s Development Organization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This move is part of a broader effort to enhance Iran’s engagement in international initiatives focused on women’s development and family affairs.

During a meeting on Tuesday, Deputy President Zahra Behrouz-Azar, along with former Vice President Ensiyeh Khazali and other colleagues in the international affairs division, reviewed the progress and strategies related to joining the OIC Women’s Development Organization. The discussion also covered various achievements and key programs that the vice presidency has been working on.

Behrouz-Azar presented a detailed report outlining the measures undertaken to facilitate Iran’s membership in the OIC Women’s Development Organization. Among the highlighted initiatives were the Global Movement for Family Commitment, Iran’s second round of leadership in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), participation in the Committee on Women and Human Rights, and the organization of the International Conference on Women and Anti-Corruption. Other notable activities included participation in the South Africa Exhibition of IORA, collaboration with the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, and the Women’s Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as well as organizing an NGO empowerment course.

Behrouz-Azar emphasized the importance of these initiatives in strengthening Iran’s role in international platforms dedicated to women’s issues. She examined the details of various ongoing projects and directed the follow-up on specific matters. Key priorities include securing parliamentary approval for the bill to join the OIC Women’s Development Organization, advancing the Global Movement for Family Commitment in government commissions, and establishing a working group focused on women and human rights.

Zahra Behrouz-Azar was recently appointed as the Deputy President for Women and Family Affairs by President Masoud Pezeshkian. Her leadership is expected to further Iran’s participation in global and regional efforts to promote women’s development and family welfare.

The pursuit of this bill and the related initiatives reflect Iran’s commitment to engaging more actively in international efforts to support women’s development and family issues. The successful passage of the bill would mark a significant step in strengthening Iran’s collaboration with the OIC and other international bodies dedicated to these causes.
