Iran Offers Condolences and Assistance to Afghanistan Following Deadly Earthquake

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni has extended condolences to Afghanistan over the devastating earthquake that struck the country last week, leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

In a message on Sunday to his Afghan counterpart, Sirajuddin Haqqani, Momeni expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and reaffirmed Tehran’s readiness to provide assistance. “The recent devastating earthquake in the friendly and brotherly country of Afghanistan, which unfortunately resulted in the death and injury of a number of its citizens, caused deep sorrow for me and the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.

Momeni emphasized Iran’s preparedness to extend “any cooperation and assistance” to help those affected, while voicing confidence that Afghanistan’s government and people would overcome the crisis.

According to Afghan authorities, the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan last week killed more than 622 people and injured around 1,500.
