Iran Reaffirms Support for Palestine as Gaza Ceasefire Agreement Takes Effect

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated his country’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate resistance of the Palestinian people against the occupying Zionist regime.

In a phone call with the Leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement (PIJ), Ziyad al-Nakhalah, on Saturday evening, Araghchi emphasized that supporting Palestine remains a principled and unchanged stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He attributed the recently announced Gaza ceasefire agreement to the steadfast resistance of the Palestinian people against Israeli aggression over the past 15 months. This resistance, he noted, ultimately compelled Israel to accept the ceasefire.

Ziyad al-Nakhalah, expressing gratitude to Iran for its unwavering support, reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s commitment to their struggle for legal and humanitarian rights, self-determination, and freedom from occupation. He also acknowledged the critical role of resistance in forcing the Israeli regime to accept the agreement.

The Islamic Jihad leader stated, “We cannot forget our brothers in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who stood by our nation with all they had at their disposal.”

The ceasefire, announced on Wednesday, concludes more than 15 months of brutal Israeli attacks on Gaza, which resulted in nearly 46,800 deaths and over 110,450 injuries. It is set to take effect on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. local time.
