Geneva, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf met with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, hosted at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the meeting, both leaders underscored the importance of deepening Iran-Russia relations across various dimensions, including security, military, economic, political, and social spheres. The discussion reflected a shared strategic vision aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation amid evolving regional and international challenges.

Speaker Qalibaf highlighted the recent developments in Gaza and the Zionist regime’s aggressive actions against Iran, stating that these events have significantly altered regional dynamics and international conditions. He described the attacks by the Zionist regime and the United States as “deceptive” and “in clear violation of international law.”

Referring to the timing of the aggression—just two days before the sixth round of nuclear negotiations—Qalibaf noted that several Iranian commanders, scientists, and civilians were martyred in what he termed as terrorist acts. However, he emphasized that the Islamic Republic responded with strength and decisiveness to these provocations.

Qalibaf also condemned the targeting of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the United States and the Zionist regime, reaffirming that such actions constitute breaches of international legal norms. He expressed appreciation for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance and thanked the State Duma of the Russian Federation for its condemnation of the attacks.

The meeting reinforced the growing partnership between Tehran and Moscow, particularly in light of shared concerns over regional stability and respect for international law.
