Iranian Parliament Speaker Highlights BRICS Focus on US Sanctions and Economic Collaboration
Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohamnad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized that the central issue discussed during the BRICS inter-parliamentary forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, was the challenge posed by US sanctions. Qalibaf highlighted that BRICS member countries collectively represent over half of the world’s population and 30% of its economic capacity.
Returning from the forum on Friday evening, Qalibaf underscored the significance of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the North-South Corridor and energy transmission lines. “Our discussions in BRICS focused on addressing the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US,” he stated.
Qalibaf further elaborated that BRICS nations are developing alternative financial infrastructure, similar to SWIFT, for conducting bilateral transactions in non-dollar currencies.
Additionally, during his trip, Qalibaf engaged in bilateral discussions with countries including Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Armenia, aiming to strengthen cooperation on mutual interests and regional stability.
The BRICS inter-parliamentary forum served as a platform for member nations to strategize on economic collaboration and measures to counter external pressures, reaffirming their commitment to fostering resilience and independence in global economic interactions.
