Iranian President holds Talks with UK PM

Tehran, The Gulf Observer: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a stern warning that the support of certain Western states for the Zionist regime emboldens Israel to continue threatening peace and security both regionally and globally. The president made these remarks during a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday evening.

In his discussion with Prime Minister Starmer, President Pezeshkian criticized the international community’s silence in the face of what he described as “unprecedented and inhumane crimes” committed by the Zionist regime. He argued that this silence, coupled with the backing of some Western nations, contravenes international norms and encourages further atrocities, thereby jeopardizing peace and security on a larger scale.

“The war in any part of the world is not in the interest of any country,” Pezeshkian emphasized, highlighting Iran’s stance that a punitive response to aggression is a legal right of states and a necessary measure to halt crimes and aggression.

The Iranian president also welcomed the prospect of strengthening relations between Iran and the United Kingdom. He underscored that the resumption of nuclear talks and the full implementation of commitments by all signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal are crucial for the success of these negotiations.

In response, Prime Minister Starmer stressed the urgency of ending the Gaza war and called for the swift provision of humanitarian aid to the affected populations in the region. He also urged for greater Iranian assistance in these efforts.

Starmer expressed the UK’s readiness to expand bilateral ties with Iran during his tenure and voiced hope that the new ambassadors from both countries would commence their missions promptly.

The conversation between the two leaders comes at a critical time, as the situation in Gaza and broader Middle East continues to draw international concern, with many urging for diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflicts.
