Iranian President Pezeshkian Stresses Strategic Cooperation with EAEU at St. Petersburg Summit

St. Petersburg, The Gulf Observer: In a message to the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that cooperation between Iran and the member states of the union represents a long-term strategy aimed at building a strong and sovereign region.
President Pezeshkian’s message was delivered by Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, during the Eurasian Union Summit, which opened Sunday evening in St. Petersburg with the participation of the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, representing the five member countries of the union. In his message, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to the Russian government and people for hosting the summit and extended advance New Year greetings to the attending leaders.
“As I announced at the previous summit, cooperation between Iran and EAEU member states is a long-term strategy to create a strong region by strengthening national sovereignty, facilitating transportation and trade, enhancing energy security, developing technology, establishing joint financial and banking infrastructure, and increasing people-to-people contacts,” President Pezeshkian said. He added, “By relying on cultural and historical commonalities and benefiting from geographical proximity, we can present a successful model of regional integration. Let us, with great effort and firm determination, turn this historic opportunity into a turning point for shared growth.”
President Pezeshkian stressed that the future belongs to nations that advance through cooperation and mutual trust. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional and multilateral mechanisms, stating, “Our effort is always to be an effective and reliable member and partner in regional arrangements and blocs.”
He highlighted Iran’s active participation in regional and international platforms, including the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), BRICS, the D8, the Asian Cooperation Dialogue Forum (ACD), the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as evidence of its commitment. He noted that the Eurasian Economic Union holds a special place in Iran’s foreign policy and economic diplomacy, and emphasized that implementing the free trade agreement with the EAEU and obtaining observer status will ensure a productive role for Iran in this key regional economic entity.
President Pezeshkian concluded by emphasizing that the summit underscores the shared determination of the EAEU member states and Iran to expand strategic cooperation in trade, energy, transportation, and emerging technologies.
