Israeli Evacuation Orders Displace 90% of Gaza’s Population: UN
Gaza City, The Gulf Observer: Successive Israeli evacuation orders in Gaza, including 12 issued in August alone, have displaced 90% of the enclave’s 2.1 million residents since the onset of Israel’s military actions in October, according to Muhannad Hadi, the United Nations’ top humanitarian official for the Palestinian territory.
Hadi condemned the evacuation orders, asserting that they endanger civilians rather than protect them. “These orders are forcing families to flee again, often under fire and with the few belongings they can carry with them, into an ever-shrinking area that is crowded and unsafe,” he said in a recent statement.
The humanitarian crisis has severely impacted the civilian population, depriving them of essential services such as medical care, shelter, access to water wells, and humanitarian supplies. Hadi described the dire situation, stating that civilians are “running from one destroyed place to another, with no end in sight.”
The UN official emphasized that international humanitarian law mandates the protection of civilians in conflict zones. He called for immediate action, declaring, “The way forward is as clear as it is urgent: Protect civilians, release the hostages, facilitate humanitarian access, agree on a ceasefire.”
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with calls from the international community for a resolution that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the civilian population.
