Italian Prime Minister Meloni to Visit Japan for Bilateral Summit

Tokyo, The Gulf Observer: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will pay a three-day visit to Japan starting Thursday, during which she is scheduled to hold a summit meeting with her Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, the Japanese government said on Friday, according to media reports.
During her official working visit, Meloni will hold her first face-to-face meeting with Prime Minister Takaichi. The talks are expected to focus on further strengthening bilateral relations, including the expansion of security cooperation between the two countries.
The visit will mark the first trip to Japan by an Italian prime minister since February 2024.
“Japan and Italy have built close relations in a wide range of fields,” Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said at a press conference on Friday. “We hope that Meloni’s visit to Japan will further deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” he added.
The summit is expected to reaffirm the two nations’ commitment to enhancing cooperation across political, economic, and security domains amid evolving regional and global challenges.
