Jakarta govt expresses commitment to alleviate extreme poverty

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Jakarta government has expressed its commitment to alleviating extreme poverty in the capital city as a follow-up to Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2022 on the acceleration of extreme poverty alleviation.

“We will follow up on the instruction. We previously issued Governor Instruction No. 34 of 2022 concerning the acceleration of extreme poverty alleviation in Jakarta,” said Heru Budi Hartono, acting Jakarta Governor, on Tuesday.

Through the instruction, he urged his ranks to establish cross-sectoral cooperation to implement programs related to extreme poverty eradication efforts.

Hartono remarked that his government has tidied up the integrated data on extreme poverty in the hopes of boosting the accuracy of on-field measures that have been taken.

“The executive has been striving to make improvements in integrated data based on the information system to support the main strategies for the Acceleration of the Alleviation of Extreme Poverty (P3KE),” he noted.

According to the Jakarta Office of Statistics Indonesia (BPS Jakarta), Jakarta’s poverty rate in March 2023 was recorded at 4.44 percent, a 0.09 percentage point decline compared to 4.53 percent recorded in March 2020.

“This constitutes a good precedent amid the various measures being taken by the Jakarta Government to alleviate poverty,” said Dwi Paramita Dewi, caretaker head of BPS Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Earlier, Hartono affirmed that his provincial government would work in synergy with the central government to accelerate economic growth in 2024.

“We will focus on several matters in 2024, including those related to economic growth,” he said.

He added that his government would devise various concepts for managing and accelerating economic growth while promoting cooperation between the government and business entities.
