Jokowi Wears East Kalimantan Kustim Traditional Attire

IKN Nusantara, The Gulf Observer: President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) donned traditional East Kalimantan Kustim clothing during the Seconds to the Independence Proclamation ceremony at the State Palace in the IKN Nusantara Capital City on Saturday. The attire, inspired by the Kutai Kertanegara Sultanate, highlights the rich cultural heritage of East Kalimantan.

According to information from the Presidential Secretariat, the choice of Kustim traditional clothing not only reflects its functional aspects but also carries deep cultural and traditional significance. This year’s Independence Day celebration featured a diverse array of traditional attire, emphasizing Indonesia’s vast cultural diversity.

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, participating in the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, wore traditional Sambas Malay Tribe clothing from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. This choice underlines the significance of the cultural heritage of the Malay community in West Kalimantan.

Vice President-Elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, accompanied by his family, also showcased Indonesia’s cultural richness. He and his son, Jan Ethes, wore traditional Papuan attire, while his wife, Selvi Ananda, chose Lampung traditional clothing in blue with gold decorations. Their daughter, La Lembah Manah, wore a simple yet elegant black kebaya with gold accents on the wrists.

The Seconds to the Proclamation Ceremony was held simultaneously at both the State Palace in IKN Nusantara and the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. The ceremony at IKN, led by President Jokowi, was marked by solemnity and respect for the nation’s history.

During the ceremony, President Jokowi served as the Inspector of Ceremony, with Infantry Colonel Nur Wahyudi, a 2001 Military Academy graduate and current Commander of the Army’s Special Strike Force (Kopassus) Unit 81, acting as the Ceremony Commander. The Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, read the Proclamation Text, which was broadcast from IKN to Jakarta.

President Jokowi also guided the moment of silence and witnessed the hoisting of the National Red and White Heritage Flag. The ceremony was attended by various high-ranking officials and distinguished guests, including President-elect Prabowo Subianto, underscoring the unity and pride shared by the nation on this significant day.
