Kazakh and Malaysian PMs Host Investment Roundtable to Boost Economic Cooperation

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim co-hosted the Kazakhstan-Malaysia Investment Roundtable, which saw active participation from business communities and academic circles, media outlets report, citing primeminister.kz.
During the roundtable, both parties discussed the prospects for enhancing cooperation in priority economic sectors. Prime Minister Bektenov highlighted Malaysia as a key trade and economic partner for Kazakhstan in Southeast Asia. He noted that the commodity turnover between the two countries increased significantly, from $150 million to nearly $245 million last year, with the goal of surpassing the pre-pandemic level of $650 million.
Bektenov emphasized the importance of the close political dialogue between Kazakhstan and Malaysia, which forms a strong foundation for their partnership. He reiterated Kazakhstan’s readiness to diversify its exports to Malaysia and called on Malaysian businesses to explore new opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including services, processing industry, finance, education, subsoil use, agriculture, and construction. Currently, 17 joint investment projects worth over $410 million are being developed, and 48 companies with Malaysian capital are operating in Kazakhstan.
On the sidelines of the roundtable, agreements and memoranda worth $350 million were signed, further solidifying the commitment to deepen investment ties and jointly explore new markets.
