Kazakh President Congratulates Swiss President on National Day
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his congratulations to President Viola Amherd on the occasion of the National Day of the Swiss Confederation, according to the Akorda press service. In his message, President Tokayev emphasized the continuous progress in Kazakh-Swiss relations and expressed confidence in further deepening the bilateral partnership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
President Tokayev also took the opportunity to wish President Amherd success in her endeavors, along with well-being and prosperity for the people of Switzerland.
In related diplomatic activities, Kazakh Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov met with Eric Nussbaumer, President of the National Council, the lower chamber of the Swiss Parliament, and Ignazio Cassis, the Federal Councillor for Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, during his official visit. Speaker Koshanov expressed gratitude to Nussbaumer for the invitation to visit Switzerland, acknowledging the country’s significance as a political and economic partner in Europe.
The visit follows a series of high-level exchanges, including the first official visit of the Kazakh President to Switzerland in November 2021, and the visit of National Council President Andreas Aebi to Kazakhstan in August 2021. These visits have opened new chapters in the bilateral relationship and strengthened parliamentary dialogue between the two nations.
During the meetings, Speaker Koshanov briefed on the President’s reforms, the work of the multiparty Majilis of the VIII convocation, and recent legislative developments. He affirmed Kazakhstan’s interest in expanding cooperation with Switzerland in the legal sphere.
The discussions also covered prospects for further cooperation among friendship groups, committees, and party factions, as well as in trade and economic sectors, transportation and logistics, environmental initiatives, education, science, and research.
Following the meetings, Speaker Koshanov invited Swiss Schwingen wrestlers to participate in the V World Nomad Games in Astana.
In his discussions with Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, Speaker Koshanov emphasized the importance of strengthening economic ties and expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s support of Kazakhstan’s initiatives in the international arena, particularly within the United Nations and its structures.
