Kazakhstan, Germany Discuss Expanding Industrial, Logistics and Digital Cooperation

Berlin, The Gulf Observer: President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in industry, transport and logistics, digital technologies and investment.

During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further developing multifaceted relations between Kazakhstan and Germany and agreed to work toward creating favorable conditions for expanding bilateral engagement.

President Tokayev noted that Germany is among Kazakhstan’s key trading partners and major foreign investors. He highlighted significant opportunities for cooperation in industry, critical minerals, transport and logistics, digital technologies and the production of high-value-added goods, including machinery and chemicals.

The Kazakh President said bilateral trade reached US$4.5 billion in 2025, representing an increase of 13.4 percent, while total German investment in Kazakhstan over the past 21 years amounted to US$8 billion. He also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to ensuring the security of German investments in the country.

The sides paid particular attention to trade and economic cooperation. According to the meeting, the joint Kazakhstan-Germany investment portfolio currently includes 40 industrial projects with a total value of approximately US$54 billion.

President Tokayev highlighted the role of the Kazakhstan-German Intergovernmental Working Group and the Kazakhstan-German Business Council in promoting investment and strengthening economic ties.

The two leaders also exchanged views on multilateral cooperation and agreed to intensify engagement within international organisations and frameworks, including the Central Asia-Germany format.

In addition, Tokayev and Merz discussed expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including joint initiatives in education and science.

Following the talks, President Tokayev invited Chancellor Merz to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan.

The meeting took place during President Tokayev’s official visit to Germany, which also included participation in the Kazakhstan-Germany Business Forum.
