Khatlon Opens 50 New Educational Institutions as Tajikistan Expands Education Infrastructure
Dushanbe, The Gulf Observer: Tajikistan’s Khatlon Province has inaugurated 50 new educational institutions during the first half of 2026, providing a significant boost to the region’s education sector, according to the provincial executive authorities.
The newly opened facilities include 210 classrooms with a combined capacity of 5,040 students per shift, aimed at improving access to quality education and addressing the growing demand for school places.
Provincial authorities also announced that 341 educational facilities are scheduled for construction during 2026. The ambitious development plan includes 2,894 classrooms capable of accommodating 69,456 students per shift, reflecting the government’s continued investment in strengthening the country’s educational infrastructure.
Khatlon Province currently has 183 preschool institutions and 1,304 child development centers, providing early childhood education and care services across the region.
The province has also recorded notable academic achievements. During the 2025–2026 academic year, students from Khatlon secured 1,175 awards in the final stage of national academic Olympiads, representing an increase of 375 awards compared to 2025.
Khatlon’s students also performed strongly in international Olympiads, winning a total of 3,640 medals, including 829 gold, 1,196 silver, and 1,615 bronze medals, underscoring the province’s growing reputation for academic excellence and the effectiveness of ongoing education reforms.
