King Mohammed VI Offers Condolences on Passing of Sheikh Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich

Rabat, The Gulf Observer: King Mohammed VI has extended his heartfelt condolences and compassion to the family of Sheikh Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich, the spiritual leader of the Qadirya Boutchichia Sufi order in Morocco, who passed away on Friday at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness.
In a royal message, the King expressed deep sorrow upon learning of the Sheikh’s death, offering his sympathy to the deceased’s family, followers, and admirers of the Qadirya Boutchichia order both in Morocco and abroad. The monarch described the loss as significant and prayed for God’s mercy upon the late Sheikh, as well as patience and solace for those in mourning.
King Mohammed VI recalled Sheikh Boutchich’s lifelong dedication to serving Islam, noting his efforts to promote values of tolerance and moderation, while preserving and strengthening Morocco’s spiritual and Sufi traditions. The King also highlighted the Sheikh’s unwavering loyalty to the Alaouite Throne, his steadfast support for national institutions, and his commitment to the Institution of Imarat Al Mouminine, which oversees religious affairs in the country.
Sheikh Boutchich’s passing comes months after the King ordered his medical evacuation in April from Oujda to Rabat aboard a medically equipped Royal Gendarmerie helicopter.
Born in 1942 in Madagh village in Berkane province, Sheikh Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich assumed leadership of the influential Qadirya Boutchichia order in 2017. The order, based in Madagh, is one of Morocco’s most prominent Sufi movements, widely respected for its spiritual guidance and promotion of religious moderation.
His death marks the end of an era for the Qadirya Boutchichia order and represents a significant loss for Morocco’s religious and spiritual community.
