Kazakhstan Approves 2026–2028 Action Plan to Promote Legacy of Khoja Akhmed Yasawi

Astana, The Gulf Observer: The Government of Kazakhstan has approved a comprehensive 2026–2028 Action Plan aimed at promoting and popularizing the legacy of renowned thinker and spiritual leader Khoja Akhmed Yasawi. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov, according to official media reports.
The government’s press service stated that the plan comprises 37 measures focused on studying, preserving, and promoting Yasawi’s heritage, while positioning Turkistan as a major centre of spiritual tourism.
The initiative is structured around five key areas: strengthening the institutional and legal framework; advancing research and educational work; launching cultural, educational, and creative projects; organizing information campaigns and international events; and carrying out restoration and preservation efforts.
Special emphasis will be placed on youth engagement, with Turkistan set to host the final stage of the traditional Yasawi Studies competition for students. Additionally, a dedicated Yasawi Studies club will be established at the local museum to encourage academic and cultural interest among schoolchildren.
A significant component of the plan involves publishing Yasawi’s works, identifying his legacy in both domestic and international archives, and compiling a comprehensive catalogue of archival materials and historical documents.
The plan also includes updating tourism-related resources such as guidebooks, videos, and audio guides, as well as developing new itineraries tailored to international visitors. Scientific research and restoration work will be conducted at the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum, a UNESCO-listed site of major cultural and spiritual significance.
Furthermore, authorities aim to promote Yasawi’s written heritage through the UNESCO Memory of the World programme and explore the possibility of declaring a Yasawi Year or special cultural observances under the auspices of UNESCO and ISESCO.
Officials noted that the implementation of the plan will significantly enhance efforts to preserve and study Yasawi’s legacy, strengthen its promotion both domestically and internationally, and unlock the full potential of Turkistan as a leading spiritual, cultural, and tourism hub.
