Kyrgyzstan to Host Wild Tulip Festival on April 20 to Highlight Endangered Species

Bishkek, The Gulf Observer: The Wild Tulip Festival, an event dedicated to raising awareness about Kyrgyzstan’s rare and endangered tulip species, will be held on April 20 at 212a, Gorky Street in Bishkek. The announcement was made by the press service of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy.

Organizers emphasize that the festival is an important platform to spotlight the ecological and cultural significance of wild tulips, many of which are native to Central Asia and have contributed to the origin of numerous modern tulip varieties.

“In recent years, there has been growing global interest in studying wild tulips, including in our region,” the Ministry noted. “These flowers hold deep historical and cultural value, but their existence is now threatened by climate change, urban expansion, and human interference.”

The event is expected to bring together researchers, environmentalists, and community members to foster dialogue and action around conservation efforts for these unique floral species.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the memory of Kaiyrkul Shalpykov, a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic and a Doctor of Biological Sciences, in recognition of his significant contributions to botanical science in Kyrgyzstan.

The Wild Tulip Festival serves not only as a tribute to Kyrgyzstan’s natural heritage but also as a call to protect its fragile ecosystems for future generations.
